Design standards of wood house multi-storey construction to be amended
Ministry of Construction of Russia has started to elaborate amendments to the design standards which will allow to build wooden houses above three floors. By order of the Russian government the relevant document should be developed and approved by February 1, 2017.
Currently, it is difficult to build wooden houses over three floors in Russia. The main difficulties are related to the existing fire safety regulations.
According to experts, these regulations need to be updated and adapted to modern conditions. At the moment, the industry can use a large number of innovative fire resistant materials and fire-safe technologies.
In June 2016, for the first time in 40 years a new fire resistance test of laminated wood beam was held. The beam is meant for wood house construction. Tests have shown a very high level of durability, it is higher than that of metal and iron concrete.
In addition, these amendments will affect the set of rules, which is presented in the “road map” developed by the Ministry of Construction, which is aimed at support and driving up the demand for products of wood house construction.
