Introduction of BIM technology is voluntary for companies

26.10.2016

The participants of the X Autodesk University Russia 2016 conference discussed the advantages of BIM technologies and benefits from their use in construction industry.

According to participants of the round table, introduction of building information modeling (BIM) is now voluntary for companies. They will have to decide for themselves what methods to use in their work and whether to continue using the already familiar paper-based ones or to introduce new information technologies.

At the same time the voice of the customer makes the difference in this matter. Indeed, it should be understood that in addition to design expenses there can be added expenses for corrections of initial design, which in some cases may be the same amount as for the design itself.

However, it was noted that companies that have already taken the path of introduction of BIM do not want to regress to the previous methods of work.

Within the framework of the conference on BIM stands there were presented various solutions for control of all stages of the construction process with the help of new devices and the digital object information.

The effect of BIM technology depends largely on how you use it, considers Alexander Boytsov, the Deputy Development Director of Bonava, specializing in construction projects in the Nordic countries and St. Petersburg. He noted that a few years ago designers made hundreds of mistakes while creating such panels. However, once BIM technologies were introduced in practice, there were only 36 errors on the first stage of construction project. “Everything was tied to engineering infrastructure. 36 errors against 1000, which were found three years ago in a similar project,” stressed the expert.
