Moscow wants to become a “smart city”
The third annual festival “Drivers of the development of the modern city” was opened yesterday, June 21, in Moscow. The young architects and designers from Russia and Belarus presented their own view of urban environment design taking into account the growth and development of megacities.
Welcoming the participants of the festival, the head of the Department of Urban Policy Sergey Levkin said that the current urban development projects and initiatives should be oriented to the future for several decades to come.
“The modern metropolis is a complex system. An important task of the city authorities today is to organize and direct the process of urban development so that they lead to an improvement in the quality of the urban environment, the introduction of innovations, and the improvement of the quality of life of Muscovites. Among the priorities of urban policy is the introduction of “smart city” systems, “said Sergei Lyovkin.
The head of the department also noted that the key principles of urban policy should be complex construction, the creation of new centers of attraction in the city, the reduction of administrative barriers to business.
