Use of BIM technology to be mandatory in state order construction since 2019
The use of BIM technology (Building Information Modeling) in the construction of facilities under government contracts may become mandatory in Russia since 2019, said the Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Mikhail Men at the International Investment Real Estate Forum PROEstate.
“The first estimates showed that the cost of construction of such facilities has decreased by about 30%. It is not the experts calculations, it is practical experience,” said Mikhail Men.
Earlier, the Minister said that the road map on introduction of BIM technologies in construction will be prepared by September.
“We have high hopes for this program. In the coming years, more than 50% of state contracts can be transferred to the BIM-designing,” noted Mikhail Men.
According to him, next year a number of state order projects will be designed with the use of these technologies.
“Experience shows that introduction of BIM technology significantly reduces design costs and term of development of design documentation,” the minister added.
As a reminder, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. A BIM is a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle; defined as existing from earliest conception to demolition.
